SS Oceanic's return to New York , June 2009
This is a video feature of the SS Oceanic , this was of her long stay in Manhattan during which she was taken to Bayonne for dry docking and repairs after a leak was found in her hull.
This was a very rare visit for the SS Oceanic for this was her first visit to New York after over 13 years ,
she used to frequent NY when she sailed for Home Lines back in the 1970's through the 1980's.
She is now sailing for Peace Boat organization based out of Japan , there she sails the worlds oceans yet she will not be returning to New york anytime soon.
Liveboat supports the SS United States Conservancy.
November 27 2010
PRESS RELEASE:
Today , we of the Liveboat International announce our
full support to the SS United Conservancy .
Over the course of the coming months , we will work with them to further spread the word across the world and keep the fight strong to save America's flagship to be preserved for future generations to come.
The SS United States is a marvel of Navel Engineering and today still holds the record for the fastest passenger ship ever built by an American ship yard.
She has been sitting in Pier 82 in Philadelphia since 1996 and is in dire need of repairs and refurbishment.
On July 1st our reporter Byron Huart joined the National Celebration event
in Philadelphia hosted across the street at the Penns Landing Ikea store .
There he got a full broadside view of the SS United States docked at her berth at Penns landing ,
through his thorough and highly detailed photographic analysis of the ship we can clearly see that she is in serious decay.
Mr. Huart also stayed overnight in Philly after the celebration ended only to witness a truly once and a lifetime moment , the first sunrise over the SS United States in Philadelphia only hours after the special announcement had been made about the stay of execution of the beloved flagship.
The event was televised and published on various news stations and internet sources including the world famous Maritime Matters suite where our reporter Byron wrote a full article chronicling the series of events that took place that day , the article on Maritime Matters was a huge success and has since received many views and comments.
Today the Conservancy is at it's most dire moment ,
the proposal for the SS United States to be a part of the planned Fox Woods Casino project in South Philly.
Heres the official press release:
November 21, 2010 - On Monday, November 22, the Conservancy held a press conference in Philadelphia at 1:00 pm to unveil the results of a detailed feasibility study, as well as scale renderings and a model, that show how the SS United States could be the catalyst for an innovative urban redevelopment initiative along Philadelphia’s Delaware River. To read the Conservancy’s full media advisory, Click here
As detailed in an article in today’s Philadelphia Inquirer, the Conservancy commissioned Stephen Varenhorst Architects (SVA) and consultant Ken Smukler to conduct the study with support from a generous grant from Philadelphia philanthropist H.F. “Gerry” Lenfest. The team examined a number of potential locations along Philadelphia’s Delaware River and honed in on the “Foxwoods site” between Philadelphia’s Reed and Tasker Streets. The dynamic urban redevelopment initiative envisaged features the SS United States as part of a complex that incorporates hotel space, restaurant offerings, retail and office space, residential development, parkland and a marina, nature reserves, and a casino.
We will seek further feedback on the proposed design from city officials, local community advocates, and design experts. We will also continue to explore other possible development plans for the vessel, including several in cities other than Philadelphia.
To support this work and our other outreach and preservation efforts, the Conservancy is launching a year-end fundraising campaign and membership renewal push. As you know, our “Save Our Ship” Campaign launched in March was a great success. It culminated in our July 1 National Flagship Celebration at which we announced that we had received a $5.8 million pledge from philanthropist Gerry Lenfest – enough money to purchase the Big U and maintain her for 20 months. However, our national flagship still remains in grave danger. The Lenfest gift is the first step of a long journey toward redeveloping the vessel as a stationary attraction. Much work at significant cost lies ahead of us. You will soon receive a formal appeal in the mail, and we hope that you will consider supporting us at the highest level you can. In the interim, please consider making a year-end tax deductible contribution to our ongoing efforts on behalf of the SS United States by becoming a Plank Owner today, or by visiting our online donation page.
We remain deeply grateful for your continued support, and thank you for helping us secure the future of our great national flagship.

Seven Seas Voyager maiden arrival New York harbor 5/14/2010
Favorite video of the Seven Seas Voyager's Maiden arrival to New York back in May.
Liveboat USA Presents our special guest of the week Ms.Tracy B Wilson
Hello everyone!
Today we also feature a very special guest from our homeport here in New York ,
her name is Tracy B Wilson.
Tracy is a talented actress and a wonderful photographer .
it was only earlier this month she was aboard the Carnival Splendor with her boyfriend on vacation when the ship had it's infamous engine room fire earlier this month.
There Tracy along with her travel companions witnessed first hand the chaos and the deteriorating conditions aboard the Splendor for the first 24-48 hours.
During her ordeal and when the USS Ronald Reagan came to the rescue of the Splendor and her passengers , Tracy pulled out her digital camera and videotaped this amazing footage of the helicopters dropping off supplies on the upper decks of the ship.
This footage is by far the best I've seen by any of the passengers with more to be released in the coming days and months to follow, she also made few vid logs of the crew and of herself .
Unfortunately she was unable to photograph more due to having to conserve battery power due to there being no way to recharge anything.
Heres the amazing video she took viewed by thousands , this video gives us a glimpse of the situation aboard and what really happened aboard despite the extreme conditions and the long tow towards San Diego.
When Tracy finally returned to dry land , it was very emotional for her and her comrades as well as for the other passengers who made it safely to San Diego .
As much as we can say the Carnival Splendor incident was a huge disaster indeed but it was a miracle that no one was hurt or injured or the worse case scenario of the vessel sinking off the coast.
When Tracy returned to New York , she did a so so funny comedy skit at the Comedy club Comix about her experience , it is there where we meet for the first time and exchanged words on the event.
Ms.Wilson will forever go down in history not only as one of the famous passengers aboard the ill fated cruise but as one who documented the experience and has given the world such incredible and historically important footage of the incident.
We wish Ms.Wilson well and smooth sailing.

Magician marooned on the Carnival Splendor
"We've just received another report from another marooned passenger aboard the Carnival Splendor /
this is the story!"
A well-known magician who has made a name for himself in Millville , MD is one of 4,000 passengers stranded on the Carnival Splendor cruise ship that lost power Monday off the coast of California.
A small fire in the engine compartment caused the electrical loss just one day after the ship launched.
"I saw the smoke outside of our window and I said, 'This is serious,' " said Rich Bloch, owner of the Dickens Parlour Theatre and a magician for more than 60 years. "We didn't realize we'd be stranded in the middle of the ocean."
The ship, which was supposed to travel from Los Angeles to the Mexican Riviera and back, is Carnival's annual Magic Cruise, where professional magicians gather to enjoy a week of enchantment.
"I think it's just been a huge inconvenience and disappointment to passengers," said Cheryl Debois, Bloch's friend and theater manager. "Thank goodness the fire wasn't bad and it wasn't an actual rescue or a real tragedy."
Tug boats that have been towing the ship since Tuesday are expected to arrive in San Diego this afternoon.
Despite the unfortunate situation, Bloch said passengers have been positive and upbeat.
"I don't think anyone was ever seriously concerned," he said. "We all knew the Navy and the Coast Guard were coming and we were assured that the ship hadn't been fundamentally damaged, it was just without power."
On Tuesday, the Navy airlifted thousands of pounds of food to the passengers.
Without power, the restrooms on the 952-foot boat were out of commission for some time, Bloch said.
"People will not only be traumatized, but ... there are sanitary conditions and illnesses that may plague them," Debois said.
Bloch said other inconveniences included the loss of heating and air conditioning, temporary phone loss, cold food and the cancellation of performances.
To keep busy, passengers have been entertaining themselves with cards, games and sleep.
"There's no lighting available other than minor emergency lights so it's a very quiet atmosphere, particularly at night because everything goes dark," Bloch said.
Bloch has been working and performing on cruises for the past 15 years, so he wasn't hesitant at all when he boarded Carnival's ship.
But Debois said this incident could be distressing for others.
"For a lot of people, this might be their first cruise or their first vacation," she said. "That is probably disheartening to them."
Passengers will receive a full refund from Carnival, along with free transportation home and an offer for a free cruise.
Bloch is looking forward to stepping foot on dry land.
"I won't mind having a hot cup of coffee and hot shower (when we get back)," he said.Carnival Splendor Reaches San Diego Harbor!
These are breaking reports!!!
Just coming in!
SAN DIEGO (AP) - Six tug boats pulled a stricken cruise ship into San Diego Bay early Thursday, bringing the nearly 4,500 passengers and crew closer to freedom after three days of limited food, smelly toilets and dark cabins.
Escorted by Coast Guard cutters, the nearly 1,000-foot Carnival Splendor reached the harbor mouth shortly before 7:30 a.m., Coast Guard Petty Officer Rachel Polish said. It's expected to take another two hours to dock and several more before the nearly 4,500 passengers and crew disembark.
Docking will be a tricky operation because the vessel has no propulsion and can't steer, Polish said.
"It has to come in at a certain angle," she said. "You can't just pull it in as you would at a parking spot."
Just about anything that requires electrical power was knocked out by a Monday morning fire in an engine room. There was no air conditioning, no hot food, no hot water, no casino. The swimming pool was off-limits because there was no way to pump chlorine.
"Every day is getting more frustrating for some people. You can tell some people are just angry," passenger Kate Kapelka told CBS's "Early Show" on Thursday morning.
Lines for cold food stretch for hours. Navy helicopters flew in Spam, Pop Tarts and canned crab meat and other goods for the passengers and crew, passengers said.
"We're eating spoiled turkey sandwiches and warm milk and warm yogurt," passenger Joey Noriega told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Thursday. "Everything smells like it's spoiled... Nothing's cooked. It's all sandwich meat. It's disgusting. You're afraid to eat it 'cause it's been left out and touched by everybody else on the ship."
The bathrooms are dark and toilets no longer flush, passenger Valerie Ojeda told "Good Morning America."
"It was bad, but now that I think back to it, it was really bad," she said
Still, she said people were trying to make the best of the trip, dancing, laughing and singing along to "Sweet Caroline." The bar was open and offering free drinks, and there were musical bands and children's games.
Debbie Blocker said passengers helped each other up stairs and brought food to those who could not wait in line.
"It's like a big family on the sea," she told "Good Day L.A." on Fox 11 News in Los Angeles.
Crew members with flashlights even cleaned rooms in the dark, Blocker said.
Ship bars offered free drinks and as the ship approached shore, spirits rose.
"Last night, everybody was partying," Blocker said.
Cruise Director John Heald said in comments posted in a blog on Carnival Lines website that the people aboard "have risen to the obvious challenges and difficult conditions onboard."
"Obviously it has been a challenge but let me tell you the most important facts and those are that the ship is safe, the guests are safe and that nobody was injured," he said.
The Splendor left Long Beach on Sunday for a seven-day trip to the Mexican Riviera. The ship was 200 miles south of San Diego and about 44 miles off shore when the fire killed its power.
Gerry Cahill, chief executive of Carnival Corp.'s Carnival Cruise Lines, said the crankcase on one of six diesel generators "split," causing the fire. He said he doubted other ships in the Miami-based company's fleet were at risk.
"We've never had anything like this happen before, so I really don't think we have any risks to other ships," he said at a news conference Wednesday. "This is a very unusual situation."
The engine room fire created a jolt like an earthquake and smoke poured from the room, Blocker recalled.
Carnival first planned to haul the ship to the Mexican port of Ensenada, not far from a movie studio complex used to film "Titanic," and bus passengers to the U.S.
But the cruise line decided it would be better to go a little farther to San Diego, sparing passengers the 50-mile bus ride to the border. San Diego also offers more transportation and hotel options.
In his comments Heald defended the ship and crew.
There will be those who will say this has been "'the cruise from hell,'" he wrote. But he continued that there are "many more who will tell you what they have been telling me and the crew and that is that Carnival as a company have done everything they can and continue to do so."

New Updates on the Carnival Splendor disaster / PT 1
This is a breaking news bulletin!
We have just gotten reports of communications comming from the ship from passengers as cell phone service is coming back as the ship approaches it's destination.
We have also learned that John Heald Carnival Cruise lines senior cruise director is aboard the Splendor right now as we speak.
Here's his update from his blog:
So here I am with a very quick hello. I am so sorry that I have not been blogging or Facebooking but we have had no internet and only now just got limited e-mail which an I/S beard has let me borrow for a few moments to say hello. Obviously it has been a challenge but let me tell you the most important facts and those are that the ship is safe, the guests are safe and that nobody was injured in what was a very difficult situation. I also want to tell you that the guests have been magnificent and have risen to the obvious challenges and difficult conditions onboard.
I am making continuous announcements from the bridge to keep them informed and sometimes when there is nothing new to tell them I just use the PA system to say hello and hope everyone is OK and try to keep some humour (spelt correctly) alive as well, which to be honest, I have no idea how that’s going over.
I have to say that the crew has been absolutely epic and I am so very proud of each and every one of them. There have been high points and low points throughout the last few days and I will tell you all about those in the days ahead. But for now the most important thing for you and the world’s press to remember is that everyone is safe and well and we will all be home soon.
There will be those who will say this has been “the cruise from hell.” However, when you see the local news reporter with the huge hair talking to Mr. Angry remember that there are many many many many more who will tell you what they have been telling me and the crew and that is that Carnival as a company have done everything they can and continue to do so to help them through this difficult situation.
One thing is for certain though……I doubt anyone onboard will ever ever want to eat a sandwich ever again.
Thanks for all your kind words and thoughts and I will write more soon.
Goodnight
Your friend

This is a Live Boat USA breaking news bulletin on
The Carnival Splendor engine room fire which has forced left the ship stricken and adrift.
Supplies were airlifted in on Tuesday and a Mexican tug began towing it.
U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Rick Foster says a second tug was linking up with the 952-foot vessel Wednesday morning.
As various reports continue to flood in from across the globe
MSNBC reports that 4 out of the 5 tugs managed to reach the ship due to rough seas.
While no one was hurt, the nearly 4,500 passengers and crew were left without air conditioning and hot water. There's also no cell phone or Internet service. Auxiliary power has been enough to keep the toilets working and provide cold water, but the refrigerators are among the things that have stopped working admist the chaos aboard.
We still have no word from anyone aboard as even the ship's dual webcams are down as well offering no live view of the crisis taking place.
U.S. Navy helicopters from the Aircraft carrier USS Ronald Regan has since been ferrying supplies, including thousands of pounds of food, though not the lavish fare typically offered on a cruise
Holidaymakers who paid $5,200 (£3,200) per couple to drift down the Mexican Riviera on the "floating city" have instead been left stranded 50 miles off the coast of California for three days straight.
The emergency food did include crab meat and croissants, along with Spam and Pop Tarts.
Carnival is refunding passengers and offering vouchers for future cruises. It also may have to dry dock the ship depending on the extent of the fire damage.
The USS Ronald Reagan, was diverted from its current training maneuvers to a position south near the Carnival cruise ship to facilitate the delivery of the 4,500 pounds of supplies
The boxes, containing a total of 60,000lb in supplies, were airlifted on to the Splendor by a Navy Seahawk helicopter, which made 15 round trips.
The humble fare was quite a comedown from the on-board Gold Pearl Restaurant and "Manhattan-chic" Pinnacle Steakhouse.
The Splendor's dining rooms are forcefully promoted alongside its miniature golf course.
Carnival & the United States Coast Guard says the Splendor is expected to arrive in San Diego tomorrow night.
The cruise line says if it starts taking too long to get to San Diego, the ship will have to be taken to Ensenada,Mexico.
The ship which departed from Long Beach, California, and was due to call at Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, during a seven-day tour. on Sunday and was 200 miles south of San Diego when the engine room fire cut its power early Monday.
Heres the video & a few photographs from this disaster.
Gerry Cahill, the president and chief executive of Carnival Cruise Lines, described conditions on the ship as "very challenging".
"We sincerely apologise for the discomfort and inconvenience our guests are currently enduring," Mr Cahill said.
"We know this has been an extremely trying situation for our guests and we sincerely thank them for their patience."
The ship is currently being towed to shore by three tugboats. A Carnival spokesman said that guests were expected to be returned to San Diego at some point today [THURS]. No passengers or crew were injured in the fire.
The spokesman declined to say what guests had paid for their tickets but said the regular brochure price of a suite was $2,619 per person.
The passengers will have the price of their tickets and transportation refunded – and if any are keen to return, they will also be able to claim a complimentary future cruise.
The incident marks the end of a bad month for the ship. On the night of Oct 12, a crew member jumped overboard and was never found.
John Heald, Carnival’s senior cruise director, described the search for the staff member on his blog.
“I advised the guests that we had lost a valued and dear crew member to the sea,” Mr Heald wrote.
“We lost one of our own tonight, someone who just a few hours earlier was serving the guests and who now is lost to us forever.”
On Oct 31, off the coast of San Diego, another crew member had to be airlifted to hospital from the ship after becoming seriously ill.
One of the passengers posted video footage of the incident, which took place during strong winds, to YouTube.
A spokesman for Carnival declined to elaborate but said the crew member had since recovered.
She said the incidents were “very unusual” for the company.
Here is the video of that rescue.
As the world watches and waits our hearts go out to all those stranded aboard the Splendor
who are in the worse scenario , many are first time cruisers who were given the hope of a beautiful vacation which has now been turned upside down.
From reports on board the situation seems to be stable as passengers sit tight but everything is still up in the air as of now , reports on TV have described many passengers with inside cabins on the lower decks have had to go to the upper decks to use the restrooms and they have had to sleep with their cabin doors open due to the humidity and no air conditioning.
